Dance shapes in sport

We learned a new game today: using a concept of dance to complete a race!  One of the concepts of dance is 'level' - whether your body is high, middle or low level in a movement. So for the race, each member of the team has to link to the previous member with a pose on a different level. We had fun!

WaterWise tomorrow!

WaterWise is hopefully going to be one of  the best two days of the year, we're going to have S.U.P (stand up paddling), Kayaking, Wind surfing and Sailing.The class has split into groups of four :A,B,C and D
each group has at least one teacher or parent. Heaps of classes have already done it so we're hoping for a fun filled water adventure day!!!

Athletics

Its a hot sunny day in Mt Smart stadium we're all sitting in the stand in our houses and we cheer for our house groups as they run along the track.It's boiling so everyone has to put on sunblock every 2 hours to prevent sunburn but we all tried our best for our house groups.There was shotput, discus, sprints, long jump and high jump.There were 100, 200 and 400 metre sprints and you had to do one. Some people even got into central zone but it all depended on time to get into the finals.You also could get into central zone for any of the other sports.We were all sorted into groups: Junior Girls 1 & 2(11 yrs old), Junior boys 1 & 2, Intermediate Girls 1 & 2 (12 yrs), Intermediate boys 1 & 2 , Senior Girls 1 & 2 (12 yrs and nine months) and Senior boys 1 & 2 as you can see, the groups depend on age.Everyone had fun on this day I wonder what will happen next year!?

Crystals

One of our classmates, Alex, brought in some of his crystal and stone collection this week. They were so cool!  One is a section of a meteorite!!  Thanks Alex.

A fresh start!

Term three has now ended and Term four has come to replace it! This Term, there is swimming and it's going to be summer soon.We are still doing the ultimate alphabet (B) and we can't wait wait to do athletics at Mt Smart! Waterwise is going to be great when we learn more about the water and start doing fun activities in the water! Marionettes alive!

Art Fest Days 2 & 3: Paint, Lash and String

We've all worked hard to paint and dress our marionettes, lash together a cross to string them from, and then string the different body parts to that cross so we can make them move.  It's hard to do without getting the strings tangled!  Quite a few of us got the legs or arms back to front or the wrong way round.  We certainly improved our skills with fiddly knots and left vs right...

Art Fest Day 1: Marionettes - Creating body parts

Strips of newspaper, pieces of wire and rolls of masking tape have been flying around left, right and centre in Room 5 today as Art Fest kicks off.  Jo is sharing with a mixed group of intermediate kids how to make marionettes (string puppets) using these basic materials.

An elephant, Superwoman, zombie, Jed and a monkey are some of the characters that this creative bunch are slowly bringing to life.
To make the limbs, you roll long strips of newspaper tightly around a piece wire, then wrap in masking tape. The torso and head need more innovation, as they are shaped and built up by gradually adding scrunched up newspaper, before wrapping and smoothing in a layer of masking tape.

Next job: painting the components.

Ultimate Alphabet - letter Q

Week nine already! This week, our Ultimate alphabet activity was 'Q'.It has 79 words in there and it is very hard. The ultimate alphabet is made up of heaps of pictures and you have to find the words that start with the letter that you have to find. It used to be a competition and now it has been made into a book.

Rich Task

For rich task we are all working together for our big production and hoping it will be awesome. We have all been split into new groups and are working with a different teacher.  Jesse is working with costumes, Catherine, marketing and advertising, Jo for cast, Rachael and Michelle for props and scenery, and Matt for sound and lighting. So far, we are all playing games to get to know our big groups of people better!

suspense suspense suspense...

The room 5 audience was getting more tense as the year seven speech finals went on. Alicia and Ava did a very good job of delivering their speeches on Wednesday and guess what?  Alicia is going to the year seven and eight finals with her speech about why we shouldn't keep animals in zoos!!! Congratulations to Seamus for winning the year 7 speech finals and we couldn't have done it without Mary and Malcom for being such wonderful judges.

Sculptris magic

Jo has introduced us to a great new 3D animation programme called Sculptris.  We all had a go in the ICT lab and here are some of the amazing creatures we made.
